Allow me to introduce myself…
I am Dr. Brooke Chapla, a psychologist providing assessment and therapy services in person and telehealth in New Mexico. My office is located in Albuquerque, but I enjoy telehealth almost as much as in-person visits, mostly because I often get to meet your pets as well as you!
How did I get here? Well, I grew up in the beautiful woods and fields of Indiana where my first career was as a special education teacher. I loved working with children and families, but I saw a need in my students that I knew I had not been trained to address. I returned to graduate school to ultimately practice as a licensed psychologist. I attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and I completed my doctoral internship with the University of New Mexico. Here, I fell in love with the stunning, mountainous desert and decided to stay. I have extensive training in both school and clinical psychology, and have practiced across public schools, hospital systems, medical clinics, and finally my dream—my own practice.
Professionally, I excel at assessment of neurodivergence at any age, including Autism Spectrum Disorder and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. Because of my educational background I am particularly skilled at conducting a wide range of childhood assessment, from infancy through emerging adulthood, that captures both academic and psychological profiles. I have experience with a wide variety of patients, with a wide variety of needs, and I enjoy the process of working together to answer their questions about themselves as they learn to adapt and thrive.
Personally, I love cats, I have six (!), they are all named after Star Trek characters. This is also true about my two dogs (Tasha Yar-d patrol, anyone? Lt. Reginald Barkley?). I dance to David Bowie, the Dead, and Patti Smith to name a few, and that is truly only a few. I reread Jane Austen and Stephen King like it’s my other job. I took all the pictures on this website. Final Fun Fact: I can probably quote, line for line, Pee Wee’s Big Adventure from start to finish—but I’ve never been tested on that. We are all deep wells of interesting things, aren’t we?
The most important, meaningful, powerful aspect of therapy is how well we work together. If you think we’d be a good match, I look forward to the chance to get to know you!
